Terri Irwin’s Revenge (The Glass House 20/9/06)

A controversial game called “Terri Irwin’s Revenge” has sprung up online. You play Steve Irwin’s wife and shoot stingrays, which fire barbs at you. Every time a stingray hits Terri, she lets fly with a “crikey!” Sure it’s in poor taste, but where else can you set a “croc-bomb” loose to devour a pack of stingrays? It’s not allowed in real life!

It’s educational too – it’s good to know that if you are confronted with a pack of vicious sting rays that unleashing a croc can save your life. If only Steve had played this game himself he could have still been with us today…

Irwin fans are outraged. Stingray fans aren’t that keen on it either.

The creators of the game were keen to point out that “this game is intended to be a memorial and NOT a funny parody”. Clearly they haven’t actually played the game.

The creators of the game were keen to point out that “this game is intended to be a memorial and NOT a funny parody”. But if this was true, surely they’d’ve played it at his funeral?

I think it’s a true mark of respect: I just hope that, when I die, someone makes a computer game that has my wife shooting stingrays.

The game’s been pulled off the original site as a mark of respect to Irwin, and fans would like to see other parody videos removed from the web. Personally as a mark of respect to Steve, I’ve destroyed every video I’ve found of him. That Crocodile Hunter show is just disrespectful.

But the game is respectful, isn’t it? What would be disrespectful is a game where you are a stingray, trying to stab Steve in the chest! Or a game where you play a giant croc and have to eat his baby! Or a game where you play a TV comedian, and have to keep dodging hate-mail from Irwin fans!

In other news, at least ten real sting rays have been found killed with their barbs removed. See what happens when you take down the video games?

Still, at least Steve died doing what he loved – being stabbed in the chest by a serrated barb.

Other great internet games include: The 9/11 Flight Simulator / The Brock Tree Challenge / Doom 5: Columbine / Turning off Schiavo / Wolfenstein: Gassing the Jews / Slaughtering Jon-Benet / Abu Ghraib Antics / Super Osama Brothers / 2PacMan.
