Public reject Clones (The Glass House 10/8/05)

A new survey shows that, while a majority of Australians support stem cell research and gene therapy, they are opposed to human cloning and social engineering. We prefer anti-social engineering – which explains a lot about the behaviour of engineering students.

As well as being opposed to clones, many Australians are also very disturbed by identical twins.

Australians don’t want clones; however death rays, hoverbikes and daleks are still highly sought-after.

Actually, the public has only rejected one clone – but they’re all the same, aren’t they.

Two-thirds of Australians approve of stem cells derived from aborted embryos, while only one third approve of stem cells torn from the spines of living children.

Changing the make-up of cells to reduce breast cancer and heart disease was approved, while changing the cells to produce ice cream or play MP3s was seen as just being greedy.

Changing the make-up of cells is seen as much, much worse than altering their hair or clothing.

Less than 10 percent of those surveyed approved of human cloning. And it turned out later that they were all the same person.

Interestingly enough, 90% of the public also rejected Attack of the Clones

Opposition to cloning is especially strong amongst those who selected “Jedi” as their religion in the last census… though they have an 86% approval of the Force.

Opposition to cloning is especially strong amongst those who selected “Jedi” as their religion in the last census… though they’re even more opposed to the Sith.

Clones are said to be deeply offended by the results of the survey. But fortunately they can just pretend to be their original donor clonee and slip back into society unnoticed.

Cloning is allowed if restricted to popstars, major Australian political parties, and the jokes on Rove…

While less than 10% of Australians approve of stem-cell research, over 20% support Demtel research – but only if they call in the next 20 minutes.

A new survey shows that a majority of Australians support stem cell research and gene therapy – especially low-cut gene therapy. Well, it works for me…
