GNW Ep 1 and a user guide to the Empire

For those who came in late, this blog is run by a couple of the writers employed by GNW-TV, makers of The Glass House, The Sideshow and returning this year, Good News Week. I’m Warwick, I do most of the typing here, Mat’s over there – we only let him have the crayons. Makes the blog more colourful. And a bit less stabby-stabby.

So the job basically consists of coming up with as many jokes as possible about news stories that we’re going to be covering on the show. We then send them to the Head Writer, who writes a first draft drawing from everyone’s material that is then further whittled down by Paul and the Production team. That means a lot of material ends up on the cutting room floor, and as it’s topical, we figure it’s of no further use to us, so we thought may as well give it to the Internet to read, see if it’s interested in reject jokes. Turns out over the last couple of years quite a few folks were.

We’re working quite a lot more now so there is going to be a torrent of material up here over coming weeks. I just posted 12 different stories’ worth of material. It might be more interesting to see the show first, which is screening at 8:30 Mondays on Channel 10. The first episode’s up at the Good News Week site now if you missed it.

See if you can spot which jokes made it to air. It’s just like trainspotting, but with jokes!

And now… to the jokemobile…
