Teen Rugby League as meatheaded as the Seniors (GNW 28/9/09: 7 Days In 7 Seconds)

A 16-year-old has been banned from playing rugby league for 20 years after breaking an opposition player’s nose and eye. But that’s no way to encourage one of the code’s best prospects!

Awwww. It’s great to see 16 year olds acting like fully-grown rubgy league players.

Remember kids, when you’re going to brutally assault someone, try to keep your number away from the camera.

The worst offender will be banned from playing rugby league anywhere in Australia. But they’ve already been signed up for no-holds-barred kickboxing. / So looks like the real winners will be rugby union.

Tell you what, it’s lovely to see that some kids still take lessons from their elders.

Parents of some of the Blacktown City’s players were giving high-fives to the players afterwards. Because it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.

One player has been banned from the sport for 20 years, which seemed a little unfair. After all, in the grown-up NRL it’d get you four weeks tops.

He’d had a bad game, but he wasn’t going to finish without kicking something.

The kid who was banned was very disappointed. All those years of training, kicking the shit out of practice opponents – gone to waste!

Junior rugby league club secretary Kerri Eisenhuth said “I’ve never seen anything like this before”. Clearly, she never watches Rugby League. / “Oh, except in other rugby league games.” / She’s not a big follower of the NRL.

Even more shocking than the violence of the brawl was the fact that several of the players even went after the ball a couple of times. / kicked the ball a couple of times. What do they think this is, some kind of game?

Being penalised for 20 years is pretty harsh. Then again, being kicked in the face over some silly ball-game is pretty harsh too.

Parents were seen high-fiving their teens as they left the field. And that’s where little arsetards come from.

It’s the third violent incident involving teams from the Blacktown City junior rugby league club this season, after an carpark assault at an under-12s game and a supporter grabbing a 13-year-old opponent around the neck. Good to see at least the players have now taken responsibility for their own violent outbursts.

Of course, Miki Hughes deserved it. After all, he was stupid enough to play rugby league. / he DID play a weekend ball game.
